Web Design, Programming and Hosting

Web sites are developed and deployed using XHTML and CSS, the Plone Content Management System or proprietary software.

As with every project a design brief is prepared which outlines the objectives, functionality, features and budget of the website.

Once the design brief is agreed concepts are prepared for approval and production begins.

Normally everything is done in-house except high-level software or web application development in specialized languages which is when we turn to White Tiger Development, a web security expert and our Calgary-based strategic ally.

PayPal is a preferred because it's easy to use. Other transactions servers have been integrated into normanfournier.com-designed websites, for example bernardcallebaut.net was programmed with ScotiaBank as a provider, JavaScript and Java Server Pages for the shopping cart.

Plone portal and workflow programming for bi-monthly publication

this portal was never deployed in the manner in which it was designed, for stringers to be able to submit articles to the publication from remote locations and have them developed wiki-style on the web.

The text of the articles once approved for publishing, would also be easy to use in the publication's camera-ready art which at the time was produced in Quark XPress.

tenplaters com website
Ten Platers

tenplaters.com is programmed in XHTML and CSS. The website promotes a new recording by my son's rock band, Ten Platers, and features streaming mp3 files of the band's latest record, "Agent Orange". This allows users to hear the music but not save the files. Purchase is through Paypal and iTunes.

The images on the site are positioned using css and xhtml. The layout is accomplished without using tables for positioning elements.

CSS and XHTML allow a fluid layout that resizes according to the users preferences, as do the text and images if desired. The user has control over how the site appears to them.

wwater dot com website
wwater.com

Why use xhtml and css? Accessibility. User controlled experience. This site is displayed in the same size window with the type at various sizes. This is one of the main benefits of css, the user can control how the web page displays.

This user-based control of how the design plays is to me, more important than having the type as a certain size of other design consideration that cripples a web user experience,-- the text is too small for legibility, the window does not fit in the users' browser configuration and the user has to scroll to get the message.
